Unlike a single-venue event, Art Basel spreads across Miami Beach, the Design District and Wynwood, so ground transportation and timing between venues matters as much as the fair itself.
Getting there and staying
Opa-locka Executive (OPF) is the preferred private airport for Art Basel, but ramp space becomes genuinely scarce; Fort Lauderdale (FLL) is the standard overflow option and should be considered as a backup from the outset rather than a last resort.
Ground transfer from OPF to South Beach runs 25–40 minutes depending on traffic, which increases significantly during the fair. Booking a chauffeured vehicle for the full week, rather than per-transfer, is the more reliable approach.
While Art Basel is not a yachting event in the way Monaco's Grand Prix is, a private yacht based at Miami Beach Marina offers a quiet base away from the fair's crowds and a popular venue for hosting evening gatherings during the week.
Waterfront villas on Star Island and in Miami Beach see some of their highest annual rates during Art Basel week, often two to three times standard peak-season pricing. South Beach's design hotels sell out months ahead.
Traffic and valet congestion around the Convention Center and satellite fairs make a chauffeured vehicle strongly preferable to self-driving during the week; several operators recommend a dedicated vehicle and driver for the full fair duration.
